A Sun sign comes from a position, not a date label
Astronomically, the Sun is a star. Astrology groups it with the Moon and five visible planets as the seven traditional bodies. A chart places its apparent geocentric longitude in a zodiac: twelve equal 30° signs. These signs are different from the uneven astronomical constellations.
Newspaper date ranges approximate the Sun's annual movement. Close to a sign boundary, use the actual birth instant and selected zodiac instead of assuming that everyone born on a named calendar day has the same Sun sign. Tropical and sidereal settings can produce different labels for the same instant.

Begin with a question such as, ‘What work do I choose to stand behind?’ The Sun's sign supplies symbolic vocabulary; its house locates a topic, such as learning or public contribution. Aspects then connect that topic to other functions. A Sun–Saturn connection, for example, can frame a question about commitment without proving that someone is dutiful.
Traditional Western astrology assigns the Sun domicile in Leo and exaltation in Aries. These are technical relationships within that tradition, not a ranking of people. A Sun outside those signs is not defective, and a favorable dignity does not guarantee recognition or success.
What you need to calculate it
Sky Degrees calculates the seven traditional natal bodies with Skyfield and JPL DE440. Keep the birth time, time zone and zodiac with the result. The calculator requires a time; an invented noon may be useful as a labelled experiment, but it cannot establish your Sun's house or Ascendant. Compare nearby times if the original record is uncertain.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE
Worked arithmetic example: 280.375°
Suppose a tropical chart reports the Sun at longitude 280.375°. Capricorn starts at 270°, so subtract 270° to obtain 10.375° Capricorn. The fractional 0.375° is 22.5 arcminutes: the same position is 10°22′30″ Capricorn. This is an invented coordinate for practicing notation, not a calculated birth record.
That number establishes a sign and degree. It says nothing by itself about the Sun's house. To add a house, you need the chart's birth time, location and house system; to add an aspect, you need another body's longitude and the chosen orb.

Is the Sun sign the whole birth chart?
No. The Moon, other planets, angles, houses and aspects can describe different symbolic themes. A Sun-sign paragraph cannot substitute for inspecting those separate chart factors.
