Turn assertion into an observable choice
Start with an ordinary action: refusing an unreasonable deadline, beginning a demanding task or negotiating who does the work. Mars symbolism becomes more useful when tied to what happened and what you could do next. Ask whether the response was proportionate and clear, rather than assigning someone a combative personality.
A sign offers a symbolic style; a house offers the subject of the effort. Mars in a career-related house does not identify a profession, and Mars in a relationship-related house does not establish conflict. The context belongs to the person and their circumstances.
Traditional labels need their historical frame
In traditional Western astrology, Mars rules Aries and Scorpio and is exalted in Capricorn. It is also classed as a malefic, a historical technical category associated with difficulty and separation. That term is not a moral judgment about the person whose chart contains it; every chart contains Mars.
Read the condition of a planet within the selected tradition rather than mixing unrelated rules. Dignity, house placement and aspects are distinct factors. None of them supplies an empirically established forecast of accidents, illness or wrongdoing.
Read a circle, not a straight number line
Zodiac longitude wraps from 359.999…° back to 0°. Two planets on opposite sides of that boundary may be close together. To find the shortest separation, take the absolute difference and use the smaller of that value and 360° minus it. The aspect rule then compares that separation with an exact angle and allowed orb.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE
Worked arithmetic example: a conjunction across signs
Give Mars an invented longitude of 358° and Jupiter 2°. The direct subtraction is 356°, but the short route around the zodiac is 360° − 356° = 4°. Mars is at 28° Pisces and Jupiter at 2° Aries. The sign labels differ while their angular separation remains only 4°.
With configured orb values of 8° for Mars and 9° for Jupiter, the allowed conjunction orb is 8.5°. This pair qualifies. Different traditions may evaluate an aspect across sign boundaries differently; here the example follows Sky Degrees' longitude-and-orb calculation.
