Check whether you are answering the same question
Two people can disagree while discussing different parts of a plan. One may be deciding whether to begin, while the other is asking when it must finish. Before trying to resolve the disagreement, state the question each person is answering. Mercury's symbolism can help organize that comparison without deciding whose preference should prevail.
Take a current shared decision and ask each person to describe the issue in one sentence. Compare the sentences before proposing solutions. Identify a common aim and an actual difference. This exercise can clarify a collaboration or personal agreement without reducing the relationship to a single house theme.
Record the agreement without erasing the remaining difference
A useful summary names what was decided, who is responsible and when the decision will be reviewed. It can also preserve a concern that has not been resolved. Agreement does not require both people to interpret every part of the situation identically, but each should be able to recognize the terms being recorded.
After a small planning conversation, send or keep a brief summary in a form the people involved have agreed to use. Invite correction before relying on it. The point is shared understanding, not winning through polished wording. A seventh-house Mercury cannot prove honesty or determine whether a contract is enforceable.
A counterpart's character is not contained in your chart
The seventh includes partners, collaborators and other significant counterparts. Mercury's placement can suggest questions about exchange, but it cannot supply a future person's occupation, age or temperament. Synastry compares more than one chart and is a separate task; this page and its house calculator address your natal placement.
The Descendant is an exact angle, while the seventh is an interval under the chosen house method. Occupancy alone does not establish a Mercury–Descendant conjunction. Calculate with reliable time and place, keep the sign separate from the house and compare actual longitudes for any proximity claim.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE
Synthetic chart example: Mercury in the 7th house
Use the invented chart input 2001-02-03 at 17:08 UTC in Greenwich, UK (51.4779° N, 0° E), with the Tropical zodiac and Alcabitius houses. No real person or life story is attached to this example. The coordinates were actually calculated with Skyfield 1.55 and JPL DE440; they are geocentric positions for this specified moment.
The calculation places Mercury at 0°41′ Pisces (330.682378° zodiac longitude) in House 7. Its Alcabitius interval starts at 18°33′ Aquarius (318.557005°) and ends at the House 8 cusp, 12°58′ Pisces (342.973621°). The unrounded longitude lies inside that interval and is 12.125° from the nearer boundary. Rounded display labels do not decide the house.
Keep the same time, coordinates and zodiac, then change only the house system: Whole sign places Mercury in House 8; Equal house places it in House 7. The planet's longitude stays the same in all three calculations. This comparison shows why a house number must retain its house-system label. The true Ascendant is 18°33′ Leo, and the true Midheaven is 3°10′ Taurus; those angles remain distinct from a system's numbered cusps.

Does Mercury in the seventh house describe my future spouse?
It cannot establish a future person's characteristics or prove that marriage will occur. Use the interpretation for questions about communication in actual agreements, while leaving other people's identities and choices to their own evidence.
Can I use this page to calculate synastry houses?
No. The linked calculator calculates one natal chart's houses and planetary placements. A two-chart overlay is a separate calculation and is not produced by this page or inferred from its interpretation.

Synthetic chart examples use explicitly invented inputs and actual calculations; no real person or biography is attached. Dated historical sky examples can be reproduced using the stated UTC sample; they are not personal birth records or evidence for symbolic interpretations. Worked arithmetic and geometry examples are labelled separately. Astrological meanings are symbolic conventions, not established scientific predictions.
Birth time and place affect angles and houses. Unsupported or ambiguous inputs return an error rather than an invented chart. Personal results stay in browser state and do not create public result URLs.
