What Cancer describes
Moon in Cancer can emphasize the Moon's own habits and needs; Mars in Cancer raises a different question about effort and protection. A Cancer house cusp locates a house ruler in a chosen system, while a Cancer Rising result locates the actual Ascendant. These measurements should stay separate.
In this traditional Western vocabulary, Cancer is cardinal water, traditionally ruled by Moon. Its opposite sign is Capricorn; that names the other end of a zodiac axis, not an enemy or a prediction about relationships. A sign describes a 30° sector. The planet or angle occupying it tells you which chart question you are reading.
Locate the degree before choosing a meaning
Cancer begins at 90° of zodiac longitude and ends just before 120°. Subtract 90° from a tropical longitude in that interval to find its degree within the sign. A sidereal calculation may assign another sign because it uses a different reference origin; keep the zodiac setting with the result.
A Sun sign is the Sun's measured position, a Moon sign is the Moon's measured position, and the rising sign contains the true Ascendant on the local eastern horizon. The Ascendant needs a recorded birth time and place. None of these labels can supply the others, and a sign is not automatically the house with the same number.
Try care, familiarity and chosen boundaries as a question
Choose a recurring act of care. Ask who benefits, what it costs, and whether a clear request or boundary would make it more sustainable. Care is easier to evaluate when its conditions are explicit.
