Explain the decision and the reason for it
People affected by a decision may need more than its announcement. They need to know what changes, when it takes effect and which reason matters to their next action. A Mercury reflection here can focus on making responsibility inspectable, rather than treating polished wording as a substitute for a clear decision.
Choose a small decision you are responsible for communicating. Write three sentences: the decision, its reason and what happens next. Add a contact or review point only if one actually exists. Check whether a reader can distinguish what is settled from what remains open before the message is used.
Public certainty should match the available evidence
An audience may expect a simple answer even when the facts are incomplete. You can communicate uncertainty precisely by naming what is known, what is estimated and when another check will occur. This gives people usable information without inventing a certainty merely because the statement is being made in a visible role.
Review an explanation you have already prepared. Identify one claim whose source or date should be clearer and one phrase that sounds more certain than the evidence allows. Revise those points. The chart cannot establish professional credibility; dependable statements and appropriate corrections are observed in actual work.
A public-role house does not choose an occupation
Communication occurs in many paid, unpaid and community roles. A tenth-house Mercury cannot select a profession, predict reputation or establish what a parent did for work. Distinguish the visible responsibility from sixth-house daily tasks and second-house resources, even when all three questions arise in the same activity.
The MC is a calculated angle and does not coincide with the tenth cusp in every system. Mercury anywhere in the tenth is not automatically conjunct it. Use reliable birth time and location, preserve the house method and read the actual degrees before describing angular proximity or comparing results.

Synthetic chart example: Mercury in the 10th house
Use the invented chart input 2001-02-03 at 11:53 UTC in Greenwich, UK (51.4779° N, 0° E), with the Tropical zodiac and Alcabitius houses. No real person or life story is attached to this example. The coordinates were actually calculated with Skyfield 1.55 and JPL DE440; they are geocentric positions for this specified moment.
The calculation places Mercury at 0°40′ Pisces (330.663198° zodiac longitude) in House 10. Its Alcabitius interval starts at 9°32′ Aquarius (309.536203°) and ends at the House 11 cusp, 21°48′ Pisces (351.795918°). The unrounded longitude lies inside that interval and is 21.127° from the nearer boundary. Rounded display labels do not decide the house.
Keep the same time, coordinates and zodiac, then change only the house system: Whole sign places Mercury in House 10; Equal house places it in House 9. The planet's longitude stays the same in all three calculations. This comparison shows why a house number must retain its house-system label. The true Ascendant is 14°45′ Gemini, and the true Midheaven is 9°32′ Aquarius; those angles remain distinct from a system's numbered cusps.

Does Mercury in the tenth house mean I should be a writer or speaker?
It does not assign an occupation. Consider the actual work, required skills, opportunities and conditions. The reflective theme can improve a public explanation in many roles without determining which career you should pursue.
Is Mercury in the tenth the same as Mercury on the MC?
No. House occupancy gives an interval; proximity to the MC requires comparing exact longitudes under a stated rule. Whole sign and equal houses keep the true MC separate from their tenth-house boundary.
