What Sagittarius describes
Jupiter in Sagittarius places Jupiter in a traditional domicile. Mercury in Sagittarius might ask how a broad claim survives close detail; a Sagittarius Sun asks what direction a person chooses. Rulership does not itself make a Jupiter aspect or show where any body falls by house.
In this traditional Western vocabulary, Sagittarius is mutable fire, traditionally ruled by Jupiter. Its opposite sign is Gemini; that names the other end of a zodiac axis, not an enemy or a prediction about relationships. A sign describes a 30° sector.
