A boundary in a coordinate system
The zodiac divides a full 360-degree circle into twelve equal signs. In tropical coordinates, 0° Aries begins the circle; 0° Taurus is 30° longitude and 0° Gemini is 60°. Every sign has its own 0°. The number is incomplete unless the sign and zodiac are also stated.
Sidereal coordinates use a different reference origin. Changing the zodiac or ayanamsa can change the sign and degree label while describing the same astronomical direction. Keep these settings consistent when comparing calculators.
Rounding is not an ingress calculation
A value just below 30° may round to the next whole degree. That does not mean the unrounded position crossed the sign boundary. Read degrees and arcminutes, or the full numerical longitude, before deciding which sign contains the position.
An ingress is a crossing at a particular instant. A daily ephemeris can bracket a crossing between samples, but a table showing one position each day does not provide the exact crossing time. Retrograde motion can produce a return across the same boundary.
What a symbolic reading can add
Some astrologers describe early degrees using the language of beginnings or unfamiliarity. That is an interpretive convention, not an astronomical measurement of maturity. The planet, sign, house and aspects supply different kinds of context; a bare zero cannot replace them.
For a birth near a sign change, confirm the recorded local time, time zone and date before interpreting the result. If the time is uncertain, record that uncertainty rather than choosing the sign you prefer.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE
Worked boundary example: 29°59′ and 0°01′
29°59′ Aries is 29.983333…° longitude. 0°01′ Taurus is 30.016666…°. The positions are only two arcminutes apart, but their sign labels differ. This is coordinate arithmetic, not a claimed planetary ingress or a personal chart.
In the converter, enter 29.983333 and then 30.016667. Compare the sign and within-sign degree. For an actual planet, use the chart or ephemeris with the same zodiac settings.

Does 0° mean a planet has no influence?
No. Zero is a coordinate within a sign. It is not a measurement of astrological influence.
Can the Ascendant be at 0°?
Yes. The Ascendant can fall anywhere in a sign. Its exact degree is sensitive to birth time and location.
