What this calculator tells you
The Midheaven, or MC, is the ecliptic’s intersection with the upper local meridian. Its sign and degree depend on the birth instant, longitude and chosen zodiac. Calculate the actual MC here rather than substituting the tenth-house cusp from every house system.
MC and House 10 are distinct concepts
In many quadrant house systems the MC defines the tenth cusp. Whole sign houses instead count the tenth sign from the rising sign, and equal houses count ten equal sectors from the Ascendant. Under those systems the MC need not coincide with the tenth cusp.
This result reads the actual calculated Midheaven angle. Changing the house division does not redefine that point as whichever longitude happens to start House 10. The chart retains MC, ASC, DSC and IC separately from the cusp list.
Compare the time basis before interpreting
A correct local birth time and IANA zone establish the UTC instant. The local meridian then relates the sky to birthplace longitude. A time-zone error can therefore alter the MC even when the entered date looks correct.
Astrological readings often connect the MC with public standing or vocation. The calculated angle does not select a career for you or establish career fit. It provides a geometric reference for a separate symbolic interpretation.
A CONCRETE EXAMPLE
Capricorn MC with an Aries Ascendant
The fixed example has MC 9°37′ Capricorn (279.61245615° longitude) and ASC 24°16′ Aries. In an equal-house construction from that Ascendant, the tenth cusp would be 24°16′ Capricorn: ASC + 270°, reduced modulo 360°. That construction does not move the actual MC to 24°16′.
This preserved, fictional example uses 1 January 2000, 12:00 UTC, Greenwich (51.4779° N, 0°), tropical zodiac and Alcabitius houses. Its stored source is Swiss Ephemeris 2.10.03. New calculations use Skyfield + JPL DE440; the historical example is not relabelled as a new calculation.

Is MC always the tenth-house cusp?
No. The relationship depends on the house system. Whole sign and equal houses can have a tenth cusp at a different longitude from the actual MC.
Is the MC the same as the zenith?
No. The zenith is directly overhead. The MC is an ecliptic point on the upper local meridian, and generally does not coincide with the zenith.
What is the IC?
The IC is opposite the MC along the ecliptic. Add 180° and reduce modulo 360° to obtain the opposite longitude. It is kept separate from the fourth-house cusp in the same way.
